Project brief

This project aims to develop a media player application, capable of playing the audio and video files. It will enable participants to implement a stable player which will perform:

Qt Platform FAQ

What is Qt?

Qt is a cross-platform GUI application development framework for various hardware and software platforms (E.g. desktop, embedded and mobile). It is supported in all major platforms like Linux, OS X, Windows, VxWorks, QNX, Android, iOS, Black-Berry, Sailfish OS and others. Qt is not a programming language on its own. Can I use Qt in embedded platforms?

Obviously, currently, four embedded platforms are supported by Qt

  • Qt for Embedded Linux is a C++ framework for GUI and application development for embedded devices. It runs on a variety of processors, usually with Embedded Linux. Qt for Embedded Linux provides the standard Qt API for embedded devices with a lightweight window system.
  • Qt for Windows CE is used to create applications running in existing Windows CE and Windows Mobile environments.
  • Qt for the Symbian platform is used to create applications running in existing Symbian platform environments.
  • Qt for Android enables you to run Qt 5 applications on devices with Android v4.1 (API level 16) or later. All Qt modules (essential and add-on) are supported except Qt Webengine, Qt Serial Port, and the platform-specific ones (Qt Mac Extras, Qt Windows Extras, and Qt X11 Extras). How do I build Qt toolchain for Embedded Systems?

There are many ways to do this. Most widely used and convenient method is using Yocto.

If you are selecting a new hardware platform then yocto packages may not available for that platform. Such cases you need to create toolchain from scratch. In Emertxe’s Qt application development for embedded systems course we will be demonstrating non-yocto scenario. This is mainly because Yocto is not part of the course scope. What do you mean by Qt for Embedded Linux class?

It is meant that Qt for Embedded Linux class is, the classes which are relevant to Qt for Embedded Linux users. They are:

  • Qt sensors
  • Qt platform abstraction class
  • Qt sand engine
  • Qt Screen

Using them you will be able to leverage the power of Qt in Linux running on any standard Embedded Systems (ex: Raspberry Pi 3)

What kind of interfaces available for handling sensor data in Qt?

We have various methods to handle sensor data based on OS platform. Qt Sensor classes are available for Android platform, using these classes we can handle all sensors very easily. Some of these classes are available for other OS platforms as well. In case sensor class is not available we need to take the help of sensor driver software to handle.

Can I implement IoT use-case using Qt in Embedded Systems?

For example, by using Qt sensor library, we can read the data from sensor and store it in the program. The collected data can be uploaded to servers or clouds on a real time basis. To upload the data, we can use Qt-Webkit library and web engine libraries. Hence with the help of Qt libraries, we can implement IoT use case in Embedded Systems. What is the mentor interaction provided during & post course?

During the class-room delivery, you will be getting hands-on support from our mentors in terms of face-to-face interactions. After that you will be interacting with mentors during intervention sessions where you can clarify your queries and doubts. Further to that they will be responding to your emails for the support duration.

What do you mean by one month of lab assistance?

Qt programming for C++ workshop is conducted on weekends. Contents are delivered in a workshop manner, which is power packed. However to realize the real benefit of this workshop, participants need to work on some real time projects / assignments to make the learning effective. In order to support this need, we provide one month lab assistance after the course. During this period our mentors will be providing you support when you are facing difficulty in building projects that are listed above. This includes debugging issues in pair or clarifying your doubts using our online ecosystem. This way your learning will be complete & effective.

What kind of project support I will get after the course?

Students will get complete support from mentors for project related queries, for a defined period of time. They can do all the projects provided by mentors, even after the completion of course. They can come to the institute and take support of trainers and lab mentors during weekends. Students can also email our trainers for any project related doubts.
